What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the art and science of using essential oils for improving and maintaining health and beauty. The use of essential oils dates back over 5000 years ago and was used by several ancient civilizations (Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Chinese and Indian).

What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are non-oily aromatic liquids occurring naturally in various parts of plants, herbs, flowers, fruits, woods and spices. They contain the life force of the plant and have the ability to strengthen our immune system and to stimulate our body’s natural healing abilities. The proper use of essential oils is gentle but can be profoundly effective in balancing body, mind and spirit.

What is an Aromatherapist?
In Canada, we have the Canadian Federation of Aromatherapists (CFA). Certification by the CFA organization allows a professional aromatherapist to utilize the designation Certified Aromatherapy Health Professional (CAHP). Certification is required to ensure that an aromatherapist is trained to professional standards for the safety of the public, whom(s)he serves.

An aromatherapist utilizes essential oils to enable the body’s natural healing process. As an aromatherapist, one is professionally trained in the properties of application and contraindications of essential oils. Essential oils are blended together or used individually to support and promote this healing process. They may be recommended for use in various ways: blended in oils or creams for use on the skin, in baths, face “steams”, diffusers, compresses or nasal inhalers.

Aromatherapy at Priority Massage and Health
There are 2 ways to experience the healing power of essential oils at Priority Massage and Health:

  1. Aromatherapy Massage:
A blend of essential oils is added to your massage oil and used during your massage therapy treatment. Used in this way, the essential oils are absorbed into your skin and then enter your bloodstream where they have the ability to “go where needed”. We have a variety of pre-blended oils for you to test and smell. Each of the blends has a purpose, such as to help you relax, energize, detoxify or provide relief from pain.

  2. Consultation with a Certified Aromatherapy Health Professional:
Jaime, our aromatherapist, would be happy to provide you with a custom blend of oils suited to your specific needs. Aromatherapy can provide a natural means of treating a range of common health issues including skin imbalances (eczema, psoriasis, acne, dry skin), poor digestion, pain, insomnia, stress and anxiety, depression, colds and flu, female concerns, headaches, sinus issues, etc. Aromatherapy can be very useful in providing relief from many pregnancy side-effects as well can be very effective in calming and treating babies and children. For your convenience, a consultation can take place by email or over the phone. For more complicated and/or serious health concerns, consultations will take place in person by appointment at the clinic.
