Reflexology is a focused pressure technique, usually directed at the feet. It is based on the premise that there are zones and reflexes on the feet that correspond to and are relative to all parts, glands and organs of the entire body.

When these reflexes are stimulated, the body's natural electrical energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones. A reflexology session seems to break up deposits (felt as a sandy or gritty area under the skin) which may interfere with this natural flow of the body's energy.

Benefits of Reflexology:
Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, activating a parasympathetic response in the body to enable physiological change. With stress removed and circulation improved, the body is allowed to return to a state of homeostasis. Other benefits include:

  1. Relaxation with the removal of stress and tension
  2. Enhanced circulation.
  3. Assists the body to normalize metabolism, naturally.
  4. Complements all other healing modalities.
A firm pressure is used when working the reflexes of the feet. We work within the pain threshold of the client and use a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being sensitive and 5 being painful. Reflexology is not meant to inflict pain.

Reflexology sessions last from 45 to 60 minutes in length. How long that relaxation lasts after a treatment is a good indicator of the effectiveness of the session. Make note of this and tell your reflexologist your response at your next session. This can be helpful information to the reflexologist

What to expect during a Reflexology treatment
A reflexology session is done with you in a seated and lounged position. You will be asked to remove your socks and roll pant-legs up, if necessary. You can expect a general health and foot assessment, an all-natural foot-cleanse, followed by a pressure point-based treatment, applied to all surfaces of your feet and lower legs. The session is completed with a relaxing and revitalizing foot and lower leg massage. A full Reflexology treatment lasts between 45 minutes to an hour and is a great addition to your overall health and wellness routine.
